Can I
install DigiPunch on a peer-to-peer network? |
|
|
Yes. There are two
things you need to pay attention to.
1. The paths to the database must be the same for all the stations.
Therefore, you might need to map the database directory differently, or
use the DOS SUBST command to substitute the directory name with a drive letter
on the host PC to make the paths the same.
2. BDE's "LOCAL SHARE" must be
"TRUE". Go to Control Panel->BDE Administrator. On the
Configuration tab, select System->INIT to set this value.

What is

| |
DigiPunch comes with the
default password CLOCK. The user can change it later.

4. |
Can I run
DigiPunch on more than one standalone PC? |
| |
Yes, Polaris Computing allows
the user to run multiple installations of DigiPunch with one license.
But it might be inconvenient for the user if he needs to combine the
data, such as when importing it into a payroll system. Multiple installation
with one license may require extra steps for the user to combine the data.
It will be much easier if each installation has its own license.

Why isn't
the PC able to run DigiPunch on the network after Windows is upgraded from
98 to XP? |
|
|
Most likely, it's caused by
the difference in Windows networking mapping results. Windows
3.1, 95, 98, and ME treat mappings differently than NT, 2000 and XP. For
example, when a directory is mapped to a letter, say H:=VolABC:\\DirXYZ,
H:\DirXYZ is a valid directory for Windows 3.1, 95, 98 and ME, but invalid
for NT, 2000 and XP. To solve this problem, simply map the letter to
the root of that volume on the XP PC, for example, H:=VolABC:.
Note that DigiPunch is fully compatible with XP, and it can
run on PC's with different versions of Windows on the same network.

Can I
install the 16-bit version on 32-bit Windows PC's? |
| |
Yes, and you can install it on
PC's with different versions of Windows on a network. For example,
you can install DTC on Windows 3.1 PC's to lower your equipment cost, and
DM can be installed on managers' PC's which likely run 32-bit Windows.

Can
employees be transferred to a different department in the middle of
pay period? |
| |
Yes.
Be sure to check the
overtime figures for the employee for that week, because the system does
not know which department is responsible for the overtime hours.
